Important Announcements!!

TRAP DIVISION:

  • Just a reminder… trap practice will be held at Jefferson Sportsmen for the next three weeks (4/29, 5/6, & 5/13). Because we only have two trap houses we will need to move quickly in order to get everyone done before dark. Everyone should try to arrive as early as possible, first squads will begin at 5:30PM.
  • Knobels Cookout, don’t forget to respond to the email Ray Gajewski sent out!
  • May 17th PEN-MAR Trap Shoot, we need help with the Glen Rock shoot. Setup, teardown, scorers, etc. Please see the sign-up sheet at practice.

SPORTING CLAYS:

  • Sporting Clays practice will be at Hopewell Fish and Game Association on 4/30 & 5/7. Make sure you bring 2 boxes of ammo and a couple dollars so you can tip your trappers.

PISTOL DIVISION:

  • If you plan to go to Nationals and you want to shoot pistol there is still time to sign up for the Pistol Division. Contact me for details.

WINCHESTER RAFFLE:

  • If you have sold your tickets please turn in your stubs and money as soon as possible.

NATIONALS:

  • We have one room remaining in our block of rooms. See me if you’re interested.

AMMO:

  • Our grant ammo not scheduled to be delivered until May 8, 2015 at the earliest. That means given the ammo we currently have on hand, we are going to fall a couple weeks short of that May date. Make sure you remember to bring 2-3 boxes with you to practice.

Trap Division ACTION REQUIRED!!!!

TRAP DIVISION:

This is very important so I need all Trap Division athletes, and their parents, to read and reply to this email by noon on Wednesday April 22, 2015.

As you know, we will be participating in the PA AIM Trap Championship on June 14, 2015. For reasons out of my control, the Pennsylvania State AIM Director is requiring me to provide him with FINAL SQUADS for the shoot by Friday, May 1, 2015. This makes things extremely difficult for me as I need to develop final, unchangeable squads for a shoot that’s going to happen 8 weeks from today.

Below is a list of athletes who are eligible to participate in the shoot. I need everyone on the list to double check their calendar and make sure they are fully committed to attending the shoot on June 14, 2015 in Elysburg, PA and send me email by Wednesday saying:

YES, I’m committed to attending the PA AIM Championship on June 14, 2015 or
NO, I ‘m not able to attend the PA AIM Championship on June 14, 2015

The squads that I submit next Friday cannot be changed or altered in any way. If it turns out that someone cannot make the shoot, the remaining four athletes on that squad will be disqualified from squad awards and will only be eligible for individual awards.

Thanks for your help. If you have any questions let me know.

Skeet Division Update – additional information

SKEET DIVISION:

UPDATE: Practice tomorrow (4/9/15) at York – Adams Game and Fish Association.

Also, everyone participating in our PEN*MAR Skeet Shoot must register as a new shooter and pass Loch Ravens Safety Quiz.  If you have not previously done this click the link below to get started.

http://www.lochravenskeettrap.com/newshooterintro.php

Everyone in the Skeet Division should already have this on their calendar but I’m sending out this reminder just in case it slipped your mind.

We will be having our PEN*MAR Skeet shoot on April 18, 2015 at Lock Raven Skeet and Trap. We have 25 athletes scheduled to shoot the event, 13 from Mason-Dixon and 12 from Hazelton Area High School. Athletes will be assigned to one of two flights, 9:00AM or 11:00AM with the awards taking place around 2PM.

This is going to be a really nice event and I have ordered some good looking awards for it. We will even have a shoot-off for a Shamrock Leather bag that everyone will get to participate in!!!!!

Couple of things to remember:

  • Get a good night’s sleep and eat a good breakfast before you come to the range
  • There is no food for sale at Lock Raven so make sure you bring whatever you need with you
  • This is a 100 target Skeet shoot and athletes are responsible for their own ammo
  • Seating is limited so make sure you bring along some lawn chairs

We’ll talk more about this at practice on Thursday but I just wanted to make sure everyone was made aware of the details.

Team Meeting Follow-up

Great seeing everyone last night!!! Just a quick follow up from last night’s meeting,

  • Great news, we will have ammo to distribute at practices!!!! Marcia and I plan to pick up enough to get us through the next few weeks of practice. Hopefully our grant ammo will be in by then and it will cover us for the rest of the year. Unfortunately we won’t have any extra room so I can’t take any orders at this time.
  • Remember, Athletes are responsible for bringing 2 boxes of ammo with them to practice. If you’re looking for 12 gauge ammo look for 12 Gauge 2 ¾ dram 1 oz. (#7.5 or #8) loads. If you’re one of our new shooters and you need help with your ammo or any of your required equipment call me (717-235-0743) and I’ll be glad to give you a hand.
  • New shooters and parents…Don’t get overwhelmed with all the stuff on the Mason-Dixon Calendar. Most of you are only shooting American Trap so you are only looking for the events in GREEN. Here is a link to the calendar with only the trap events. If you have any questions send me an email or give me a call and I would be glad to help.
  • Raffle… I forgot to talk about the raffle last night. Each athlete on the team is asked to sell a minimum of 10 tickets…if you can sell more great. As an incentive the athlete who sells the most tickets receives $100, and the athlete who sells the winning ticket will get $50!!!! Tickets were handed out last night, if you didn’t get yours or if you need more see Marcia at any practice.
  • Here is a link to a map showing the location of the road closure we talked about last night that affects how you can get to the Izaak Walton range.

Mason-Dixon takes 3rd Place in East Coast Bunker Trap Championship

Four members of the Mason-Dixon Clay Busters, Jeremy Adkins, Heidi Bechtold, Donovan Barry, and Ryan Hayes traveled to Ft. Benning Georgia this past weekend to compete in the ACUI East Coast International Championships hosted by the Army Marksmanship Unit.

The small Mason-Dixon team took third place in the High School Bunker Trap Division.

This was a great start to our 2015 competitive session. The third place finish earned the team $2,500 for its MidwayUSA Foundation endowment account.

A special thank you goes out to the parents who braved the storm last week to make sure everyone made it to the range safe and sound, and to Dave Bechtold and Allen Chubb of Keystone Shooting Park who coached the athletes in preparation for the event.

Sponsors and Donations

As I’m sure you can understand, it takes a lot of resources to run a quality youth program like ours so Mason-Dixon is continually looking for additional partners and sponsors to help keep the costs down for our athletes and parents. The registration fees our athletes pay cover only a fraction of the true cost associated with participating in our program. Without the help we receive from our supporters many of the athletes in our program couldn’t afford to participate in the Shooting Sports.

That’s why I need your help! Over the years I have just about exhausted my list of potential sponsors and I’m hoping that some of you may be willing to help me find some new sponsors for the team.

While businesses that sell shooting supplies are a perfect fit, don’t limit yourself to those. A local business whose owner supports the shooting sports and/or youth activities might be an ideal candidate. The person who owns an auto parts store or hair salon might be an avid shooter or 2nd Amendment supporter who would be proud to be associated with a youth shooting team.

Every dollar we raise goes right back to the team and since we are a 501c3, donations to the team can be tax deductible.

Help me help our athletes! Contact me to get started and for valuable information I can provide you to help reach potential supporters. If everyone chips in and finds a sponsor or two it would make a huge difference in the ability of our program to meet the needs of our athletes.

2015 ACUI Lower East Coast Conference Championships

Two Mason-Dixon athletes, Tori Mann and Jeremy Adkins, traveled to the Forest City Gun Club in beautiful Savannah Georgia this past weekend to compete in the ACUI’s Lower East Coast Conference Championships. Ten College and five high school teams made the trek to try and take home top honors. The competition was fierce in the high school division however Tori was able to triumph and bring home High Over All High School Female, Sporting Clays First Place Individual Female, Trap First Place Individual Female, and Skeet Third Place Individual Female honors. Congratulations Tori and Jeremy… Way to go down there and show the south how we do it up north!

In related news… Mason-Dixon Clay Busters alumni, Stephanie and Mark Beardsley played a big part in Emmanuel College Clay Target Team’s first place finish in the collegiate division at the ACUI Lower East Coast Conference Championships. Mark posted an impressive 278/300, Emmanuel’s second highest overall score, while Stephanie’s 271 placed her 5th on the top squad. In addition to making the top squad Stephanie also took home three individual third place awards for Trap, Skeet, and Sporting Clays.

It was great to see how much college shooting is growing and all the opportunities out there for our young people. Next up for us is the ACUI East Coast International Conference Championships at Fort Benning Georgia on March 6-8. If you are interested in attending one these fantastic events let me know.

This is an International shoot (100 Olympic Trap and/or 100 International Skeet) and is open to high school juniors and seniors. The team would pay all registration fees however athletes would be responsible for providing their own ammo and travel expenses.

Registration open for Mason-Dixon’s new pistol division…

pistol-logo[1]We are looking to start a division that will participate in the Scholastic Pistol Program (SPP). The SPP is the pistol division of the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF).

This will be a speed steel program. Take a look at this video on the SPP website, (http://sssfonline.org/video-spp-go-fast-stage/) it will give you a good idea of what we will be doing. Dan, Dawson, Sam and Jacob shot it for fun at Nationals this summer and they all loved it.

The SPP has 2 classes, a Rimfire Division and a Centerfire Division. I need a minimum of 4 shooters to sign up in one of the divisions in order for us to start a team.

Pros:

  • All practices will be held at IWLA York Chapter #67, Dallastown PA
  • It’s not going to cost a lot. $20 to sign up for the SPP, a pistol, and some ammo will pretty much be everything needed.
  • For those who chose to participate in the Rimfire Division, we will be receiving a grant for 10,000 rounds of .22 ammo that we will use for practice.
  • The team has about 35 boxes (50 rounds/box) of 9mm that team members can purchase for $12.50/box.
  • The SPP has a deal with Ruger and Glock where shooters in the program can purchase pistols at Great Prices!!!!
  • Anyone who participates in the SSP with us this year, and attends Nationals, will get to shoot the National Championship for free.

Cons:

  • The team will not have any loaner pistols. Some of the coaches have firearms that they will let kids try but shooters who participate will be expected to provide their own firearms.
  • As of today, there are no competitions in our area for us to participate in. The only competition the team will be participating in will be for the kids who go to Nationals.
  • There are only 6 scheduled practices and a couple of them are early next year, so the weather may influence the ability for us to get them all in.
  • One of the SPP practices is scheduled for an afternoon where we have a Sporting Clays practice in the morning at Blue Ridge.
  • Ammo supplies have been getting better in recent weeks however .22 ammo may be difficult for us to find after we use up our grant ammo.
  • Our program will only be able to take 12 participants. If we have more than 12 sign-up, priority will need to go to kids who are going to Nationals in July.

SSP Practice Dates:

  • 1/24/15 @ 2:00 PM
  • 2/28/15 @ 2:00 PM
  • 3/28/15 @ 2:00 PM
  • 5/14/15 @ 6:00 PM
  • 6/27/15 @ 2:00 PM
  • 7/9/15 @ 6:00 PM

If this sounds like fun and you want in… fill out the [download id=”101″] and mail it with a check made out to “Mason-Dixon Clay Busters” to 213 Pine Street, Glen Rock PA 17327.

If you would like additional information or have questions give me a call and I would be glad to provide additional details.

Would you like to choose how your tax dollars are spent?

I’ve always said that I wouldn’t mind shelling out my hard earned money to Uncle Sam, if only I had more of a say in how the government spends my money. Well, if you make a tax-deductible donation to the Mason-Dixon Clay Busters, in effect, you ARE choosing how your tax dollars get spent.

When you make donations of money or property to qualified charitable organizations such as the Mason-Dixon Clay Busters, you may be allowed to take that donation as a deduction off your income taxes. It’s not exactly a dollar-for-dollar exchange, but if you know you’re going to owe some income taxes, it’s a great way to offset that. Personally, I’d much rather give money to the Mason-Dixon Clay Busters than to the government!

So think about it: your hard-earned money could be going to enrich the lives of young people by supporting our shooting sports program ….or your money can go to buying something stupid like $360 government hammers. It’s up to you!

We are a fully qualified 501(c)3 not for profit organization governed by a board of directors. All of our board members, coaches, and mentors are volunteers so every penny donated to our program goes directly to supporting our young people. As you finalize your year-end tax planning, please consider a tax-deductible donation to the Mason-Dixon Clay Busters.

Don’t have cash but still want to help?

Think about donating some of that stuff you have lying around? Below is our wishlist:

  • Gun Safe
  • O/U Shotguns
  • Ammunition
  • Soft Gun Cases (52”min)
  • Silicone Treated Gun Socks
  • Shell Catchers
  • Recoil Pads (Limbsaver, KICK-EEZ, R3, XCOIL, TrapDude, etc)
  • LOP Adjusters (Graco, Bump-Buster, Braun, etc)
  • Chokes (Invector Plus, Rem Choke)
  • Gunsmith Services
  • Laptop
  • DryFire System
  • Copy Services
  • Laminating Supplies
  • Stamps
  • Copy Paper
  • Gift Cards (Cabelas, Gander Mountain, Dick’s)

How to Make a Gift

  • Non-monetary donations (Goods and Services): Contact coach@masondixonclaybusters.com or 717-235-0743 and we’ll make arrangements to pick your items up.

Fall Fun Trap League Final Results

Before I get to the results I would like to take a second to thank everyone who participated in our Fall Fun Trap League. We had a couple hiccups but for our first try at doing a league I thought everything went really well. As always I would like to send out a huge thank you to all the coaches and volunteers who helped run the league and that includes a special thank you to our friends at Glen Rock Shooting Club who let us use their wonderful facility.

Now for the results, we had three age based categories in our league, Open (over 23), Junior (15-23), and Sub-Junior (14 and under). All three categories were closely contested with two out of the three being decided on the final night.

“Super” Sub-Junior Nathan Metzger was the league’s top shooter taking home the High Over All award. Nathan just edged out fellow Sub-Junior Dawson Sterner who took home the Sub-Junior Champion award. Rounding out the category was David Bell who finished as Sub-Junior Runner-up. In the Junior category Ryan Hayes had an impressive showing taking the Champion award over Jeremy Adkins who was the Junior Runner-up. And finally, in the Open category Lisa Szyperski locked up the top spot edging out runner-up Sean Eagan for the Open Champion.

An “unofficial” category I would like to acknowledge was our new/beginner shooters. The league had 13 shooters who were new to trap shooting that participated with us this Fall. It was really great to see so many new shooters out there on the line! Topping our list of beginners was Tyler Stine with Rachel Sauers coming in a very close second. I’m sorry I didn’t have awards for this category but I wasn’t expecting the large turnout. However I did want to recognize Tyler and Rachel along with all of the new/beginner shooters who shot with us this fall. Great job gang, keep up the good work!

Again I would like to thank everyone who was a part of the league and hopefully we can do it again next year. If you are interested in shooting with the Mason-Dixon Clay Busters this spring I would recommend that you fill out the [download id=”99″] to lock in your spot. The registration package can be found on our website along with [download id=”11″], tentative [download id=”10″] and lots of other information about our program. We would love to see everyone who shot in the fall league shooting with us next year!!
