As I sit here drinking my morning coffee, I can’t help wishing I was back at the Cardinal Center Campground and the SCTP National Team Championships. We had an amazing week, but sadly it all seemed to fly by way too fast. For those of you who didn’t camp with us this year you need to find a way to do it… being onsite all week was so much fun!
First let me start off by saying how proud I am of our Mason-Dixon family!!! The support and encouragement provided to our athletes was amazing. Thank you to everyone who pitched in with food and supplies. The meals worked out so nice. Thank you to all the parents and coaches for making our week at nationals run flawlessly. And a special THANK YOU to the Rooney’s for taking the spot right next to our big team tent, Alma did a fantastic job coordinating meals and communicating needs and expectations to the group. FYI… we would really appreciate someone stepping up and taking over this role at nationals next year.
To our athletes, you continue to amaze me. There was something different about nationals this year. Everyone had their head in the game and it showed. In the Team HOA we finished #1 from the state of Pennsylvania for the second straight year and 19th overall! Our Collegiate squad (Mark Beardsley, Chloe Sterner, and Sam Rooney) finished 1st in Bunker and 3rd in Skeet Doubles. Individual awards included Chloe Sterner for 3rd place Collegiate Lady in Bunker and Mark Beardsley for Collegiate HOA Top Gun. Top Gun included Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays, Pistol, and Rifle. Mark straddled the Coach/Athlete fence this year and ended his week by winning a very nice gun and a big old belt buckle in the 2018 Coach’s Make-a-Break Championship.
As some of you already know, next year will bring changes to the program, not as significant as first thought, but we will certainly have a few. One thing everyone needs to know is that Marcia and I will do our best to provide a quality program for everyone. Our trip to SCTP Nationals will be just as fun and exciting. Everyone will have the opportunity to attend, not just the best, and we will do our best to find ways to pay registration fees and provide ammo for everyone.
