SCTP Sporting Clays & MD AIM Recap

Sorry for the delay in getting this out. This past Saturday (6/14/14) Mason-Dixon traveled northeast to the Factoryville Sportsmen’s Club to participate in the PA SCTP Sporting Clays Championship. The weather could have been a little warmer however I thought the club did an excellent job putting on the event. I don’t know, maybe I was really hungry but I thought that BBQ’ed chicken was outstanding!!!

Anyway, 220 youth athletes form across the state participated in the event. The course included a lot of difficult crossers that our team really seemed to struggle with however I thought overall we did well and even placed two of our individual shooters on the podium. Mark tied for first in the Junior Category and using longest run as a tie breaker took home the 2nd Place Junior trophy. Stephanie also took home an award placing 2nd also in the Ladies category.

As I said, when you take into consideration the difficult targets and how young the core of our team really is, I was very pleased with our performance. If nothing else we know where our week points are and that we need to work harder on our crossers for next year’s SCTP Sporting Clays Championship. Speaking of next year’s championship, I’m very please to inform you that the Blue Ridge Sportsman Club has been selected to host next year’s championship. Don’t worry, I’m already working Blue Ridge into next year’s practice schedule. Being that Blue Ridge is in our own back yard, it should really cut down on next year’s travel expenses…and that’s good news for everyone.

In other news, Mason-Dixon sent two squads to the Maryland AIM Trap Championship this past weekend. I don’t have all the results however I have heard that despite some very windy conditions, many of our athletes walked away with awards. And I’m very please to say for the second year in a row a Clay Buster took home the Shamrock Leather Bag. Eric Inch stepped it up and shot a 25 straight in the shootoff to win the bag… Great job Eric!!!! I’ll post the final results of the Maryland AIM Trap Championship as soon as I receive them.

Next up for some of you is Saturday’s PA SCTP Skeet Championship, the rest of you keep practicing, the Fun Shoot is Wednesday and you never know what we will be playing!!!! See you then!
